About us

The company was established in the 1920's as McKenzie Motors and renamed McKenzie Guppy & Sons after Don McKenzie and Douglas Guppy, along with his three sons relocated from London to Dorset in the sixties.

Mckenzie Guppy & Sons went from strength to strength rebuilding many renowned Bentley and Rolls-Royce motor cars. In the early 2000’s Barry Guppy retired and the company continued with John Vickery and Adam Guppy at the helm. John served his apprenticeship under Barry Guppy.

Adam, Barry’s son, is now the third generation Guppy to be committed to vintage car restoration. In 2022 John passed away leaving his son Carl to carry on his exceedingly high expectations. The company is currently run by Carl Vickery and Adam Guppy. They continue to carry on the standard of workmanship and passion for vintage Bentleys & Rolls-royces started so many years ago.

Adam Guppy

Having grown up spending my summer holidays shadowing and pestering my father in the workshop, the inevitability of my path ending up here seemed set in stone. I did endeavour to be a little contumacious and being a keen artist I attempted some kind of self intervention and went to art college only to end up doing technical illustration, drawing engines and the way they work opposed to actually working on them. I was lured back into the fold and haven’t looked back… well maybe once or twice.

Carl Vickery

Some of my early memories of my dad, the late John Vickery bringing a freshly restored WO Bentley to my school and remembering how wide my eyes went. My Grandad owned and worked on Rolls Royces and Aston Martins, all of this set me on a path to having a strong interest in wanting to know how things worked. I’ve ended up following my dads path into working with vintage and classic cars.

Having started as an apprentice under him, I’m still here learning and enjoying the unique challenges of working with all types of classic and vintage automobiles.
